Call NowIn case you have a present gas furnace, once contemplating a new one you'll find that a lot has changed in gas furnace technology in the last 15 - 20 years. Carrier, a leading manufacturer in heating and cooling equipment, has a highly efficient and effective group of furnace models to choose from. Below are some of the differences in today's furnace vs. one's from a decade or more ago:
Staging Choices and System Output:
Old: Single stage only: Typically oversized and wide temperature swings and really noisy operation.
Carrier: Fully modulating, two stage, or budget friendly single stage. Varying heat output creates longer heating cycles, more even temperatures, and much quieter operation.
AFUE Efficiency:
Old: Common efficiencies as low as 60% with a huge percentage of your energy dollars wasted.
Carrier: Up to 98.5% AFUE: as much as 40% reductions in energy cost commonly saving Cook or DuPage homeowners hundreds of dollars each year.
Venting:
Old: Chimney or B-Vent terminating through the roof.
Carrier: While chimney vent models are still available for replacements, most models use smaller low temperature plastic venting that can be vented out a sidewall or through the roof.
Combustion Air:
Old: Combustion air drawn from the mechanical space creating drafts because flue gases going up the chimney need to be replaced by cold winter air drawn into the living space from outdoors through negative pressure.
Carrier: Condensing models are sealed combustion drawing combustion air in through a PVV pipe from outdoor. This is safer than chimney venting and reduces winter infiltration into your home.
Blower:
Old: Single stage inefficient PSC motor.
Carrier: Fully variable speed or efficient constant torque motor for better airflow and lower electrical consumption.
Ignition and Controls:
Old: Unreliable inefficient standing pilot ignition and mercury based single stage wall thermostats.
Carrier: Hot surface ignition with a full range of precise thermostat and App based control systems.
